THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU FENCE

Are you building a fence? There are a few things you need to remember before you start.

1.) What is the scope of your property?

Before building a fence it is very critical that you determine the boundaries of your property to ensure that what you enclose actually belongs to you. There have been many cases of disputes between neighbors who own what. This can easily be avoided by distinguishing boundaries before installing the fence.

2.) What type of fence do you want?

There are varied types of fences available. They may come in the form of palisades, wood pickets, chain links, wire mesh, or may even utilize electricity. A convenient way of determining the right type of fence is to first know your purpose. Is it for simply for aesthetics or keepings animals? Do you value security or is it more on just simply providing a little privacy for your haven? Have you incorporated fence gates to your design?

You can do a little research on the different fencing methods and find out the pros and cons of each one. Palisade is a common type of fencing that offers both aesthetics and beauty. Fences made of wood are easier to build, but are more prone to damage and needs frequent repair. Wrought-iron fences are more long lasting, yet may be a bit harder for your pocket.

3.) How much are you willing to spend on fencing?

Having a fence built can be a bit costly. It is important to allot a practical budget. The budget you need depends on the type of fence you want, and at the same time the type of fence you get depends on your budget.

4.) What are the zoning rules and regulations in your area?

Check the zoning rules and regulations in your area. Some have particular specifications on the design, height or type of fence allowed. Some people have installed their fences only to have it changed later on because it is not permitted. Some also require that you apply for a building permit.

5.) Who will do the fencing?

Are you going to do the fence yourself or are you going to ask for the service of fencing contractors? If you’ve got the know-how you can probably save a few dollars by doing the fence yourself or by asking the help of friends or relatives. Hiring fencing contractors, on the other hand can spare you from the dirty work. Contractors and fence specialist are well-trained professionals. They should be hired for more complicated works like electric fencing or creating fence gates. However, employing them will probably cost a whole lot more.
